Title: Adolescents' education programme: a pilot for the youth development initiative

Abstract: The Youth Development Initiative (YDI) project, conducted in January in 2001 and funded by a private donor through CARE USA, was situated in three villages in Dorng Tung Commune Smach Meanchey District, Koh Kong Province. The project was piloted based on the philosophy of participatory approach by working in partnership with adolescent to design and implement education services based on their short-term and long-term needs. Youth participation wa at the core and learners and members of the community were encouraged to take an active role in designing and developing courses to meet their specific needs. This report aims to assess the impact of project activities in relation to objectives and also to review the extend to which the empowering approaches CARE used through its literacy /life skills programme could build youths' ability and confidence to participate in all decision making process for their education programme.
